Live Nativity Scene by the Franciscan Church
Venue/Address:
the front of Franciscan Church
Date:
24-26 December
Traditionally, the Franciscan Fathers organise a “Live Nativity Scene by the Franciscan Church” in Kraków from 24th to 26th December. It is a continuation of the 13th-century tradition initiated by St Francis in the Italian hill-town of Greccio, and brought to Poland by his spiritual sons – the Franciscan seminarians from Kraków. Since 1992, they have continued their annual nativity plays opposite “the pontifical window” which are connected with the breaking of the wafer and the joy of singing carols together. The Archbishop of Kraków (today Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz) addresses the people of Kraków by sharing his best wishes on Christmas Eve.
