Anniversary of John Paul II’s death
Venue/Address:
“pontifical window”
at ul. Franciszkańska 3
Date:
2 April
The person of the Polish Pope is commemorated in Kraków with artistic performances on a huge stage situated in the Main Square. Their number includes the Seven Songs of Mary Leśniów Oratorio and the I sought you concert. They are accompanied by special film shows, symposiums, and exhibitions devoted to Karol Wojtyła. On the anniversary of his death, 2nd April, congregations gather at 9 pm for the evening vigil at the “pontifical window” at ul. Franciszkańska 3.
Every 2nd April, candles and lights are lit before the church of the Franciscan fathers from the early hours of the morning. The flames then light the dusk of the evening at 9:37 p.m., when the people gather here to pray for the quick beatification of John Paul II.
At precisely 9:37pm – the hour of the Pope’s death – common prayer begins by the window of John Paul II’s home in Wadowice.
