Divine Mercy Sunday
Venue/Address:
Sanctuary of Divine Mercy
Date:
first Sunday after Easter
Website:
Thousands of pilgrims from Poland and abroad come to Kraków for the central celebrations of Divine Mercy, falling on the first Sunday after Easter. The annual indulgence and celebration begins with a night-long vigil of prayer at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Kraków; this is the place which preaches to the world the message that Jesus shares with the world through St Sister Faustina Kowalska.
The dynamic intensification of the worship of Divine Mercy began after the beatification of Sister Faustina on 18th April 1993, and her canonisation on 30th April 2000; but is also a result of the pilgrimages to Kraków-Łagiewniki by the Holy Father John Paul II (in 1997 and 2002): the man who entrusted the whole world to divine mercy.
