The Glorious Mystery of the Passion of Christ
The Passion of Christ Mystery Play, which is organised every year during Holy Week lasts from Wednesday to Good Friday, and draws thousands of pilgrims. It begins with the scene of the Feast at Simon and Judas’ betrayal (on Wednesday), which is followed by the mandatum – a liturgical ritual of washing the feet of Jesus’ disciples, the Passion procession to the Palace of Caiaphas (on Holy Thursday), and the final Passion of Christ taking place on Good Friday: the morning judgement over Jesus at Caiaphas’s, the procession to the Pilate’s Hall and Herod’s Palace, from which the Way of the Cross leads to the Hill of Crucifixion and ends in the liturgy of Good Friday.
The scenes are staged by students and graduates of the Bernadine Theological Seminar and lay pilgrims from various parts of Poland, who impersonate people living 2000 years ago.
