Czesław Miłosz Festival
May 2013
On the fifth anniversary of the poet’s death, the Polish Book Institute has launched the Czeslaw Milosz Festival. The participants are poets from various countries, belonging to various generations, among them several Nobel Prize winners. The first edition (2009), called The Captive Mind, consisted of poetry readings, panel discussions, film screenings and numerous fringe events, all of which took place in such scenic and venerable settings as the Tempel Synagogue and the St Catherine Church, the Stary Theatre and the Jagiellonian University’s Auditorium Maximum, the Japanese Art and Technology Centre “Manggha” and the Alchemia pub. Subsequent editions of the Czeslaw Milosz Festival are to be held in Krakow every other year. The titles of Czeslaw Milosz works will serve as mottoes to each edition of the festival. The motto in 2011, the centenary of Milosz’s birth, will be Native Realm.
