Secrets of stuffing
One of Poland’s oldest culinary traditions is referred to by the 9th Pierogi Festival, held at the Mały Rynek. Tourists visiting Kraków from Poland and abroad will have a chance to get to know old Polish cuisine, while Cracovian restaurateurs battle for the annual statuettes of St Jacek (Hyacinth) with Pierogi and King Casimir. Last year the jury awarded the “St Jacek’s” pierogi, made by the Polskie Smaki restaurant on ul. św. Tomasza, with the public coming up with a slogan “XXX”. The King Casimir statuette was awarded to the restaurant Any Time, whose “Dangerous Liaisons” pierogi with the sensational broad bean and bacon stuffing were loved by the public. It’s the filling that conceals the greatest surprises, revealing new secrets every year. Let’s hope it will be the same this year. But before we find out this year’s winners (results will be announced on 15 August at noon), a Holy Mass will be held in St Mary’s Basilica dedicated to merchants, followed by the blessing of herbs in the Mały Rynek by Fr. Bronisław Fidelus.
