Fryderyk Chopin, the greatest Polish composer, visited the Salt Mine in Wieliczka on 24 July 1829. His visit and his signature, left in the mine’s guestbook were the inspiration for the Salt Nocturne – Wieliczka 2010 project organised by the Kraków Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka, Wieliczka Salt Mine and Polish Strauss Association.
The programme of the Project consists of various events. The main part of it is a series of underground concerts, rounded off by visual arts – painting, sculpture and museum exhibition.
17 July, 7pm – Chamber Chopin concert, Wieliczka Salt Mine, A. Długosz chamber. Performers: Kevin Kenner (piano) and PIAZZOFORTE quintet
30 July, 7pm – Jazz Chopin concert, Wieliczka Salt Mine, Warszawa chamber. Performers: Andrzej Jagodziński Trio
5 September, 7pm – Tango Chopin – The Slavic Soul of Tango, Wieliczka Salt Mine, Warszawa chamber. Performers: Waldemar Malicki (piano) and New Tango Bridge.
9 Octobe – 5:30pm, unveiling of Fryderyk Chopin Memorial, opening of the Wieliczka Salt Mine in the time of Chopin exhibiton, 7pm, Symphonic Chopin – concert by Obligato Strauss Orchestra under the baton of Jerze Sobeńko, presenting new symphony works by copmposers from Poland, france and Great Britain, inspired by Chopin’s music.
August / September 2010 – plein-air for the sculpture students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków
