The Princes Czartoryski Museum is inseparably connected to the tradition of Puławy: the first museum to be established in Poland and opened to the public. It was in Puławy that Princess Izabela Czartoryska gathered together a large collection of symbols of Polish statehood in the 18th/19th centuries. Her entire collection was moved to Kraków in 1876 by Izabela’s grandson, Prince Władysław Czartoryski. The most precious items in the Czartoryski Collection are the painting of Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci (around 1490) being the artist’s only work in Poland, and a great world-class rarity: Landscape with the Good Samaritan by Rembrandt Van Rijn (1638), which is one of only seven independent landscapes by the artist.
Permanent exhibitions open until the end of 2009: 14th-18th century Polish souvenirs and European artistic craft, Gallery of European Painting, European Decorative Art, Armoury, Gallery of Antiquities.
The museum remains closed due to the renovation.
Please note! Leonardo da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine is currently not on display!
