The exhibition in the main prayer room is devoted to the synagogue and the most important religious holidays in the Jewish calendar, including the Sabbath, New Year, Day of Atonement, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Purim, and Passover. The most important religious object in the synagogue is the parchment scroll containing the text of the Holy Scripture: the Torah. The exhibition arranged in the authentic interior of the now disused synagogue presents the embroidered curtains of the Ark and decorations used to adorn the Torah scrolls: embroidered dresses, silver crowns, granaty (tower-shaped finials), shields and pointers (yad) used while reading the Scriptures.
The audio guide to the old Synagogue explains in Polish, English, German or Hebrew the basic principles of operation of the synagogue, provides information about Jewish customs, and gives a short history of Jews in Kazimierz (rental charge: PLN 10).
Permanent exhibition: Tradition and Culture of Krakow Jews.
See: Kazimierz.
