Ecce Homo – Sanctuary of Saint Brother Albert
Venue/Address:
ul. Woronicza 10
Living here are the Albertine Sisters, in whose care resides the family grave of the family of John Paul II. Wojtyła frequently visited the sisters in their convent, and in 1989 he canonised Brother Albert, the founder of the Orders of Albertine Brothers and Sisters, who devoted his life to aiding the homeless and the destitute.
The pope used to say: "I was fascinated with his personality. In him, I saw a model that suited me: he rejected art to become the servant of the poor - 'the swells' as they used to be called at the time. His life greatly helped me to put aside art and theatre, and join the seminary." (quoted from: Jan Paweł II, Wstańcie, chodźmy!, Wydawnictwo św. Stanisława BM, Kraków 2004).
