Rakowicki Cemetery
Venue/Address:
ul. Prandoty 1
The grave of the Wojtyła family is situated in the military section of the Rakowicki Cemetery, established in 1920. Deposited here are the bodies of Karol's mother Emilia, who passed away when the future pope was nine years old, his father Karol (d. 8th February 1941), and his brother Edmund: a physician who died in 1932, having contracted scarlet fever from a patient. The grave is in the custody of the Albertine Sisters from the convent in Woronicza Street.
In 2005, a few days after the pope's death, a monument of John Paul II was unveiled in Rakowice.
