Pod Lipkami House
Venue/Address:
ul. Księcia Józefa 55
This house was inhabited by the Szkocki family, friends of Karol Wojtyła, who were forced to move to Szwedzka 12 after their house was requisitioned by the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police. The future pope would come here for his French lessons, and participated in artistic evenings, which he described years later: "in this way, the sombre time of war and occupation was bathed in the light of that beauty that we drew from music and poetry." (quoted from: John Paul II, Autobiografia, Wydawnictwo Literackie, Kraków 2005)
Only the outside may be visited.
