Basilica of St Francis of Assisi
Venue/Address:
pl. Wszystkich Świętych 5
As a student of theology, Karol Wojtyła frequented the holy masses celebrated in the Franciscan Church. His favourite place was in the aisle, under the musical choir: it was there that he would sit most often, a fact today commemorated by a small plaque on the pew.
Deposited in the church are the relics of the Blessed Aniela Salawa, of whom the pope spoke as follows: "I beatified her on 13th August 1991 in Kraków. With her life, she proved that the work of a housewife, conducted with faith and in the spirit of dedicated service, may lead to sainthood. I frequently visited her grave." (Quoted from: John Paul II, Wstańcie, chodźmy!, Wydawnictwo św. Stanisława BM, Kraków 2004).
