The New Podgórski Cemetery was established in 1900 in ul. Wapienna, at the foot of the Krakus Mound. It is the resting place of persons who rendered great services to the city, and later the district of Podgórze, including Antoni Mateczny, the founder of the balneological spa (whose name is borne today by the busy roundabout in Podgórze), and Józef Kałuża, a footballer and sports activist of Cracovia Football Club. A legend of the club in whose colours he played 408 matches, scoring 486 goals, he set his personal record number of goals per match at 13.
