Piłsudski Bridge
Venue/Address:
przedłużenie ulicy Krakowskiej
Construction work began in June 1926, and the opening ceremony took place on 19th January 1933. The completed Piłsudski Bridge was 146 m (479 ft) long, of which 72 metres (236 ft) was the central gently arched span. Its 10 m (32 ft) width of roadway was sufficient to install two parallel tram lines and had pavements added on both sides. The concrete bridgeheads were set on foundations built during the construction of the embankments. The 1200 metric tons of the bridge’s iron latticework construction was produced by the Zieleniewski factory. Towards the end of the second world war, Germans mined the bridge and partly damaged it. The original form was, however, restored in 1948.
