Fire Station Complex

Vote

Venue/Address:

ul. Westerplatte 19

The Fire Station Complex was built in 1877-1879 for the professional fire service (operating in Kraków since 1873) to an innovative design by Maciej Moraczewski. It originally consisted of quarters for firefighters and officers, garages for horse-drawn fire engines and fire trucks, an emergency fire service, an emergency telegraph, a hose-drying hall, workshops, and a gym. The whole complex has remained virtually unchanged to this day, with the main, redbrick building and three symmetrical gates, of which only one has been altered to allow access by modern fire engines.
