The castle in Pieskowa Skała was an important link in the chain of fortification guarding the trade route, that led from Kraków to Silesia. It is one of the most beautiful examples of Polish Renaissance architecture. It is said to be haunted by a ghost of its 15th-century owner, Piotr Szafraniec, a knight who was beheaded for robbery...
The castle was first mentioned in the documents in 1315. In the 16th century it was rebuilt in Renaissance style by its owner at the time - Stanisław Szafraniec. The splendid Renaissance residence with the arcade courtyard and loggia dates back from this time.
