Family House of Pope John Paul II in Wadowice

In Wadowice, sixteen marked stops map out the route associated with the childhood and the youth of Karol Wojtyła - Pope John Paul II. A museum was opened in his family house.

This exhibition is to illustrate and commemorate John Paul II’s life and his work in Poland until the moment he left Kraków for the conclave in Rome, in 1978. In the room where Karol Wojtyła was born and lived until 1938, and in the kitchen, a few items of the remaining furniture has been collected. In the other rooms, there are glass cases which contain Karol Wojtyła’s documents, either original or copies, objects, manuscripts and works published before October 16, 1978. On the walls there are some photographs connected with Karol Wojtyła himself and places he frequently visited.

A major renovation of the Family House of John Paul II on ul. Kościelna 7 started on 13 September 2010. It will last until 2012. In the meantime, from 28 September 2010, most of the exhibits in a replica of the Wojtyła family apartment will be on display in the Catholic House at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in Wadowice (pl. Jana Pawła II 1, on the left hand side of the basilica).

The exhibition The Treasure of My Life - the replica of the Family House of Pope John Paul II is displayed in the Golden Hall of the Catholic House. It gathers the most precious memorabilia and multimedia presentation of a future exhibition, which will be reopen in the Family House.
